Have you ever heard of a hairbrush straightener?
If you’ve been around for a while, you may have noticed one thing that’s become pretty regular when it comes to me and my “branding” – and that is the awesome side-po’ I typically rock (almost always braided).

Now you maybe think it’s just a look I love or a purposeful part of my branding, and in truth, that’s part of it, but really…I’ve got a secret.
A secret I’ve battled for 29+ years now…
And that is…
I hate my hair.
Throughout high school, I tried EVERYTHING to tame my white girl fro. Gels, creams, flat-irons out the wazoo…nothing worked.
My hair has always seemed to be at war with itself, wanting to be curly and then thinking it’s straight, and in the end, I look like a poodle if I don’t tie it back.
Finally, I met a friend/hair stylist in college who introduced me to her Chi Flat Iron and oh. my. goodness. My prayers had been answered!!
Using a Chi Flat Iron
Oh, but hello nearly $100 price tag!! Luckily, my college friend took pity on me and gave me her older Chi when it became time for her to get a new one. I was ecstatic and for years, it was my most prized possession.
Even with the amazing Chi, though, it still took me nearly an hour to straighten my hair. Fortunately, I was then introduced to dry shampoo and HELLO game changer. Now I could straighten my hair and now have to worry about it for days on end.
Tragedy struck. My Chi stopped working.
Thus was birthed my awesome side po’.
Now I’m a fan of my look (obviously) but I have *LONG* hair and there are certainly days I want to celebrate that. As I’ve gotten older, I appreciate my hair for the wild chaos that it is and have begun to look at it as a challenge to tame it. I picked up a straightener from Walgreens, but every time I use it, my arms threaten to fall off about halfway through.
Then one day, I came across an ad for Boardwalk Buy. Oooh, good ol’ Facebook ads…
Boardwalk Buy Brush Straightener
Now if you’re new here, you should know – I *LOVE* to shop online. Seriously. But more than that – I LOVE to save money!!
So I was torn as to whether or not to click through to the product, but after reading a few of the comments in the ad, I knew this was something I had to try out.
It arrived from Boardwalk Buy less than a week after I ordered it and I was beyond excited to try it out. It looked like fun if nothing else! Plus both my toddlers napped that day which meant I had the rare opportunity to actually shower AND wash my hair. Ah, the exciting life of motherhood.
The brush heated up in just a couple of minutes and luckily I had some heat defense spray on hand as the brush gets up to about 450 degrees Fahrenheit and I knew my thick hair needed the heat but also needed to not look like I’d stuck my finger in an electric socket.
Four minutes later…
YES – FOUR MINUTES LATER…
And I was done. I couldn’t believe it. Thank you, Boardwalk Buy!!
Check out the video (sped up 2x for your viewing pleasure):

OK, I need to know about this. I’m always looking for ways to look like I spent time on my hair when in fact I don’t want to have to spend a lot of time on my hair!!
Haha yes!! Get it!!! It’s actually supposedly more gentle on your hair, too, which makes sense given that it’s not crunching your hair between two hot plates. I’m really happy with the product and the company overall.
I need to try this, I am all about quick and easy!
It’s absolutely amazing, like I actually *WANT* to straighten my hair now. I’m so happy I gave it a shot!
Sounds like a winner, Amber. I have crazy straight hair. Is there anything to make it easier than tedious blow drying to give it some bounce? Looks like this product has been a great time saver.
Four minutes??? Right now I’m using a fat round brush for 30 minutes or more. Talk about dead arms.
These sound great! I tend to do my hair curly now, but always straighten fringe or it’s crazy! I’ve used ghds for years & they can straighten anything, quickly. Though not as quick as 4min! You can do good curls with ghds too if you know how. I like the idea of doing it all with a brush though!
I have this too and love it!!
Isn’t it just AMAZING?? Heh I never thought I’d enjoy straightening my hair and now I’m like “Hmm time to invest in more heat defense spray!” hehe
So easy! I haven’t seen them in Australia so will check it out.
I ordered mine on the third of This month how long until it ships to me ?
It took mine about ten days to get to me. You should’ve received an email with a tracking code I think 🙂
Didn’t receive my order..Diane Gonzalez.
Hi, Diane. I’m not Boardwalk Buy 🙂 you’ll need to contact them directly. I only wrote a blog post to share my experience as a customer.
This product sucks… right where you hold the brush handle is where the on/off and temp buttons, everytime you brush, you change the temp or turn it off. If you have thick hair…. it doesn’t go all the way thru, takes twice as long as irons.
Sorry you didn’t have a similar experience! I have EXTREMELY thick hair and it worked really well for me.
If you have actual thick curly hair this brush straightener does not work. While it does make your hair feel really soft, my hair was no where near straight at least not anything I would wear down out in public. I was so excited to purchase this brush too especially after reading all of th comments about how well it worked even on really curly hair. But I was super let down. So unless you already have straight hair I don’t recommend this product.
Blergh, I’m sorry it didn’t work for you! I have super thick, wavy hair and it did wonders for me but goodness knows all hair is different. What works for some won’t work for others!
This may be a good product, but do not buy from Boardwalk Buy. I received the straightener, it did not work, and I have yet to receive a refund or even directions for how to return it. I have sent numerous emails, and they respond, but not to the simple question of how to return this. What a scam!
This is maybe a silly question, but have you tried holding down the power button? I totally thought mine was faulty when I got it, but apparently you have to hold down the button to turn it on.
