A few months ago, I hired a business coach to help me in growing my online companies. Despite having nearly two decades of blogging experience behind me, I allowed my fear to get the better of me and felt that if I wanted to continue to be successful, I needed a coach. This was my first mistake.
My second mistake was thinking that if I wanted to grow my businesses, I needed to outsource. Now, outsourcing can be a great thing, but I did it because I thought I had to, not because I needed to.
Now I’m all for having a business coach, but there are so many who aren’t so much coaches as they snake oil salesman. I used to have videos up on this page explaining what went wrong, but the “coach” (despite not naming her or giving any identifying information) threatened me to the point where I felt it better to just pull them down.
I will say this – do your due diligence. I did not and I fully own that. It’s a mistake that cost me $2,200 – which at the time was an entire month’s income for my family.
Know who you’re hiring and why. Don’t jump into hiring a business coach just because you think you’re supposed to.
Have you ever invested in a business coach? What were your results?
Sounds like you learned a valuable lesson, Amber and in the process you’ve helped a lot of people. It’s not easy to admit publicly you’ve made a mistake, but you had the courage to do it in order to help others.
